St. Catherine town is a town of a distinguished type of privacy.It is the highest of the inhabited area in Sinai. It is located at the top of a plateau that rises to 1600m above the sea level, and it is surrounded by a series of the highest mountains not only in Sinai but in Egypt as a whole.The highest of them are tops of Catherine,Moses and AL- Safsafa mountains.Such a unique height provided the location with a special type of climate.It is moderate in summer and very cold in winter which gives her a certain beauty when ice covers the mountain tops.The area was announced a nature reserve.

By any other standards, Mountains Sinai would be just another barren peak lost among the martian landscape of Southern Sinai. It is neither the highest mountain in the region, nor the most dramatic; there is no soaring, heaven-reaching apex, and it is rare to see anything resembling a divine shroud of clouds hugging its peak. Were it not for a single, overwhelming belief that has endured for over fifteen centuries, Mt. Sinai would probably be a topographical footnote.But this is the mountain where God spoke to Moses. Although no archeological evidence of Moses' presence on the mountain exists, there are abundant relics of faith throughout the eons. On the east coast of Sinai on the Gulf of Aqaba , Ras Abu Galum is well known and famous for most divers, as "coral garden" site there, suppose to be good attraction site for diving and snorkeling.The whole area was announced a protectorate due to its unique topography where mountains are so close to the sea and due to its rich biodiversity. Camels carry the heavy diving gears for divers, while-naturally- hikers walk. This particular narrow track is not passable by any kind of cars. The journey takes from 1 & 1/2 hour to 2 hours whether by foot or by camels till Ras Abu Galum itself.
